Stress is the aspect of anxiety that we feel in our body. Worry is about thoughts, but stress is how our muscles get tense, our breathing gets tight, we feel achy, and our hands sweat. Stress is the physiological response to perceived danger. The good news is you can train your mind and body to be calm by doing simple activities throughout the day.

About Me:
I’m Emma McAdam. I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I have worked in various settings of change and growth since 2004. My experience includes juvenile corrections, adventure therapy programs, wilderness therapy programs, an eating disorder treatment center, a residential treatment center, and I currently work in an outpatient therapy clinic.

In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life’s direction.
And deeper than all of that, the Gospel of Jesus Christ orients my personal worldview and sense of security, peace, hope, and love https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/believe

  37. you’re stressing me out more by not going straight to the point.

  38. Thank you.

  39. I didn’t realise how bad my stress was until I started crying in the middle of shaking my arms.

  40. This video helped me feel less stressed ❤

  41. God always helps me reduce my stress/anxiety by only one Bible verse. John 3:16 ‘For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.’ Instantly able to breathe again. But this was really nice it is nice to move your body and shake the stress out! Thank you 🙂

  42. Thank you it helped me

  43. I am 17. For 2 weeks I’ve been questioning my gender and I’ve been stressed out to the point I’ve been crying for the first time in practically 5 years and I’m shaking constantly. My organs feel like they want to explode.
This is helpful but i need to find the time to do it.

  44. I have always struggled with anger , resentments, and unforgiveness. I have been working on it with a therapist and 12 step sponsor, and it is getting better. I was told that resentments only hurt you, not the wrongdoers. I had to write down my resentments and how they affected me to see the damage to motivate me to let go. I also had to write down my part in the resentments so I could see where i was in the wrong, make amends, change behaviors, build my character and reconcile relationships if appropriate. Obviously there are some situations you don’t play a part like if you were abused. I really get into psychology and human behavior so I like to understand why people act how they do for example mental illness. It helps to have compassion on them and to wish them well. This is NOT justifying or condoning it just helps to understand, have compassion, and wish them well. Its also not good to get revenge, not only because of consequence but they will get their karma and there will be justice. If it motivates them to change and make anends be happy for them.
